Built for running, hiking, cycling and outdoor adventure, the Runyon TrailStash 5" Gravel Short is a versatile men’s lined performance short designed to go far beyond the traditional running short. Made in the USA with a lightweight 4-way stretch, moisture-wicking and quick-dry performance shell, it combines a built-in brief liner with reflective zipper pockets for secure storage on the trail, road, bike or at the gym.
Dual Reflective Outside Zipper Pockets
Two spacious 6" reflective side zipper pockets provide secure storage for your phone, keys, energy gels and other essentials while running, hiking or cycling. The pockets are even large enough to carry cycling cage-sized water bottles when you need extra hydration on longer adventures. Reflective zipper detailing adds visibility in low-light conditions while giving the shorts their distinctive TrailStash look.
4-Way Stretch Quick-Dry Performance Shell
Constructed from a lightweight yet durable poly/spandex performance fabric, the outer shell delivers 4-way stretch, moisture-wicking performance and quick-dry comfort. Roomy leg openings provide unrestricted range of motion for running, hiking, cycling, squats, lunges and everyday outdoor activities.
Built-In Quick-Dry Brief Liner
A smooth and comfortable built-in performance brief liner provides lightweight support while helping wick away moisture during long runs, workouts and warm-weather adventures. The integrated liner makes the TrailStash an easy all-in-one performance short for running, hiking, gym training and multi-sport use.
US-Made Military Grade Survival Drawstring
The TrailStash features our signature U.S.-made military-grade paracord drawstring, manufactured by a United States government contractor and sourced through a veteran-owned business. Each drawstring is individually hand-finished, adding a distinctive American-made detail to every pair.

Designer Commentary
“I originally designed the TrailStash in 2015 with ultra running and hiking in mind. The idea was simple: create a lightweight performance short with functional side storage without the bulk of a traditional cargo short. At the time, large side pockets were uncommon in performance apparel, and the TrailStash was ahead of the curve.
After several revisions, I realized the design was just as useful for cycling. The TrailStash gives gravel riders, casual cyclists, commuters and e-bike riders an alternative to wearing a full cycling kit. You can throw on a pair of performance shorts, securely stash your phone and essentials in the zipper pockets and ride.
I’ve personally tested these shorts on rugged gravel rides and 20+ mile runs. The side pockets are large enough for cycling cage-sized water bottles, and I’ve run with a partially filled bottle on one side and my phone on the other. That versatility is a big part of what inspired the TrailStash design.
The reflective side zipper pockets are essentially our performance interpretation of the traditional utility cargo pocket — functional storage without all the extra fabric and bulk. The result is a lightweight, moisture-wicking short that performs outdoors but has a casual enough look for everyday wear.
The TrailStash has also become one of my go-to gym shorts. The 4-way stretch fabric and roomy leg openings provide plenty of mobility for squats, lunges and strength training while keeping a phone securely stored in the side pocket.
Beyond running, hiking, cycling and the gym, I can see these being worn for kayaking, fishing, traveling, gardening, swimming and countless other outdoor adventures. They’re designed for people who want one versatile performance short instead of a different pair for every activity.
We intentionally designed the leg openings a little wider for freedom of movement and additional room through the thighs. The flexible waistband also makes it easier to adjust your fit depending on whether you prefer your shorts slightly more fitted or relaxed.
