Dual Side Pockets

Two spacious outside side stash pockets provide easy-access storage without the loose interior pocket bags found in traditional athletic shorts. Carry a water bottle, workout towel, shirt, wallet, or other everyday essentials while running, hiking, training, traveling, or walking around town.

Backside Zipper Phone Pocket

A dedicated back zipper phone pocket provides secure storage for your phone and other smaller essentials while you move. Combined with the two side stash pockets, the Scoutster™ gives you multiple storage options for phones, keys, running gels, and other gear without sacrificing the versatility of a lightweight performance short.

Built-In Quick-Dry Brief Liner

The integrated moisture-wicking performance brief liner provides comfortable support for running, hiking, gym workouts, swimming, and other high-output activities. Its quick-drying construction works with the lightweight outer shell to create a versatile lined 5" athletic short built for both land and water.

4-Way Stretch Quick-Dry Performance Shell

Crafted from a lightweight and durable polyester/spandex performance fabric, the outer shell delivers 4-way stretch for unrestricted movement while its quick-drying construction makes the Scoutster™ ideal for sweaty workouts, long trail runs, hikes, swimming, kayaking, and multi-sport adventures. The 5-inch inseam balances coverage with freedom of movement for running, climbing, lifting, and outdoor activities.

U.S.-Made Military-Grade Survival Drawstring

A durable U.S.-made military-grade paracord drawstring provides a secure, adjustable fit during running, hiking, training, and active use. Produced by a U.S. government contractor and sourced from a veteran-owned business, the paracord is hand-finished and securely tacked into the waistband for lasting durability.

Designer Commentary

I started working on the Scoutster™ in the summer of 2022 with a simple goal: create a versatile 5" performance short with the freedom of a running short, the storage of a hiking short, and enough versatility to use for training, swimming, and everyday adventures.

The starting point was our Classic 3” Short, but I wanted the Scoutster™ to offer substantially more storage. Instead of relying on traditional inside pocket bags, I developed dual outside side stash pockets along with a dedicated backside zipper phone pocket. Getting the pockets right took multiple revisions of the angles, elastic, dimensions, and placement before arriving at a configuration that worked during actual runs, hikes, and workouts.

I’ve put hundreds, if not thousands, of miles into testing these shorts, both with and without the built-in brief liner. We even tested them through the San Francisco Marathon. That real-world testing helped shape the final combination of the 5" inseam, lightweight stretch shell, quick-dry liner, secure waistband, and multiple storage pockets.

One of my favorite things about the Scoutster™ is how much you can carry. On a typical trail run, I can keep my phone secure in the back zipper pocket, carry a water bottle in one side pocket, and stash my shirt in the other once I warm up. At the gym, those same pockets can carry a workout towel, water bottle, or other training essentials.

The 4-way stretch quick-dry shell also makes the Scoutster™ much more than a running short. I wanted one pair of shorts I could wear for trail running, hiking, strength training, kayaking, swimming, traveling, or simply walking around town without needing to change shorts for every activity.

After eight rounds of revisions and extensive testing, the Scoutster™ became the multi-sport short I originally envisioned: lightweight enough for running, durable enough for outdoor adventures, quick-drying enough for the water, and functional enough for everyday use.

The Scoutster™ is available in Black Canyon (Black), Twilight Blue (Navy), Ponderosa (Olive), and White Water (White), along with the limited-edition Disco (Reflective).
