Four innovative built-in brief pockets provide convenient storage without adding bulky exterior pockets or zippers. The Made in USA outside paracord drawcord provides an adjustable fit and can help secure a phone in place to reduce movement and bounce while running.

Designer Commentary
I designed the Retro Ranger™ because I wanted a simple retro running short that could become my go-to pair for long runs, short runs, yoga and leg day at the gym.
The design originally started as a 5" retro "dolphin" short with integrated side zipper pockets. After testing, I wasn't convinced that bulky zippered pockets were the right solution for a dedicated running short. I went back to the drawing board with a shorter prototype and a traditional inside card pocket, but feedback from my running buddy Mike led me to rethink where the storage should actually go.
That's when we started experimenting with pockets built directly into the brief liner. Early prototypes used three compartments, including a large center pocket designed to hold a phone sideways, but the phone bounced too much. We eventually simplified the design to four built-in brief pockets, giving runners more flexibility in how they carry a phone, gels, keys and cards.
I was surprised by how well a phone carried upright in the back portion of the liner. Personally, I carry mine upright in an outer built-in brief pocket with the lens facing outward. The outside paracord drawcord helps secure the waistband and reduce phone bounce while running.
The final design keeps the clean look of the original retro track short without loading it down with unnecessary hardware — which is exactly why I call it our "Lo-Tech Running Short for Highly Technical People."
During trail testing, feedback also led us to increase the final inseam to 4" for additional coverage and a more versatile fit. Combined with the 3" side slits, the finished short maintains the freedom of movement of a traditional split running short.
Two upcycled reflective triangles finish the backside of the shorts. They're cut from reflective remnants left from other projects, reducing material waste while adding a distinctive detail and extra visibility for low-light running.
I'm excited to offer a running short that brings together classic American track style, thoughtful storage and Made in USA craftsmanship. I hope you'll enjoy putting miles in them as much as I have.

This is a Unisex style. XS (Men’s) is comparable to a Women's XS. S (Men’s) is a Women's S.Comparing measurements of your favorite fitting shorts will help determine which size best suits you. The Waist is the range of the elastic waistband from minimum to maximum stretch. In most cases you'll want to be in the middle of the range. Choosing the correct size depends whether you want more room in the hips, the rise or the shorts a bit longer.For those in between sizes choosing the next size up is recommended.
