Designer Commentary
I’m really excited about these hats. The new Rad Reflective Camp Hat design is an improvement of the Radiant Space Camp Hat released in 2021.
For this hat design, I originally wanted the front panel to be super vibrant and reflective, however it was more of a metallic shimmer which was… cool …but not quite what I originally envisioned.
At the time, there weren’t many other camp hat designs that featured a fully-reflective front panel… it just wasn’t done before.
Since we launched the Radiant Space, it’s been interesting to notice a few other hipster running brands now incorporating more of a reflective front panel and think that’s pretty flattering because we kinda started that trend.
For the new Rad Version – we’ve used the most reflective material to create a super reflective front panel now available in 2 Colors – Spaced Grey and Blue Topaz.
We’re also adding 4 more colors to perfectly pair with the new release of our most popular multi-sport short – the TrailStash 7″ 2.0 Gravel Short – now in Blue Topaz, Red Rock (Rust), Black Rock , Ponderosa Pine & Buffalo Brown.
For the Rad AF Version – I wanted to make something that hasn’t been done before — a camp hat with a reflective visor and top panels.
With the vibrancy of the reflective features being super bright, you can probably guess the UPF protection would be very high with its reflective opaqueness. However, there is less breathability — so we incorporated airy mesh side panels to increase airflow.
In other words, the top of your head will be protected from the sun while the mesh panels help your head stay as cool as possible.
While testing this new line of Rad Reflective Camp Hats, I couldn’t tell you how many people were looking at me from their cars. The hat definitely shines like a beacon whether you’re running in the early morning, sunset hours or middle of the day!
Everything from the design and construction is solid. And it creates an element of safety with its super vibrant reflectivity.
Each hat is a special boutique piece as each reflective panel was handcrafted in our workshop. We only produced a very small amount of the Rad AF version as they were pretty costly in time and materials.
We just really wanted to get these new camp hats designed and made because they would be something unique, original and different… and not just Rad…. but Rad AF.
